On October 12, 2018, the 2018 Embracing Middle East Summit under the Special Action to Support SMEs to Participate in the Belt and Road Initiative during the the 15th China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair (hereinafter referred to as "CISMEF") was held in Guangzhou. Ye Dingda, deputy director general of the SME Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), attended and delivered a speech.


In his speech, Ye pointed out that SMEs are the cornerstone of the prosperity and stability of the world economy. Supporting the development of SMEs has become the consensus of governments of the world. The Chinese government has always attached great importance to the development of SMEs and introduced a series of policy measures, especially the newly revised SMEs Promotion Law of the People's Republic of China officially implemented, which provides a more powerful legal guarantee from the national legislation level to promote the development of SMEs, and maintains a fair and competitive market environment for the majority of SMEs. Since China proposed the Belt and Road Initiative, more and more countries have responded enthusiastically. The countries in the Middle East are at the intersection of the Belt and Road and are the natural partners to build the Belt and Road. China hopes to deepen exchanges and cooperation with all parties in the Middle East in the field of SMEs, work hand in hand, complement each other, and achieve win-win cooperation. This event has established a platform for exchanges and cooperation for SMEs in China and the Middle East, which is conducive to promoting the cooperation between SMEs of both sides to a wider, broader and higher level. China is willing to work with countries in the Middle East to further promote the growth of SMEs in various countries and contribute to the prosperity and development of the region.


It is reported that 47 representatives of Middle Eastern business associations and SMEs from the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Sudan, Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, and Palestine participated in the event and conducted "one to one" negotiations with more than 300 Chinese SMEs.


Fan Xinlin, vice president of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee, Lou Zhiwen, general manager of China SME Online, Huang Zhiming, deputy director general of the Guangdong Provincial SME Bureau, Dr. Adeeb Al Afifi, director general of the Bureau of SME Programme & Opportunities under the Ministry of Economy of the United Arab Emirates, along with 47 personnel of foreign enterprises from 12 countries in the Middle East, participated in related activities.
